What is the Heat Treatment?
The International Standard on Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) No. 15, established by FAO, regulates wood packaging used in foreign trade, and describes phytosanitary measures to reduce the risk of introduction and spread of forest pests and diseases in countries.
Heat treatment (HT) consists of maintaining a specific time/temperature curve, whereby the center of the treated wood reaches a minimum temperature of 56oC for a minimum period of 30 minutes.
It is made in chambers equipped for this purpose, where the wood is placed and its temperature is recorded by sensors placed in woods located in different places within the chamber. The chambers feature a forced hot air circulation system that keeps the temperature of the entire air volume uniform. This system eliminates insects that inhabit the interior of the material and cause the dreaded pests.By heat treatment applied to the wooden packaging and the marking of it through the stipulated graphic symbol, Forestal BGA, S.A. de C.V. certifies that its wood products meet the conditions and requirements required by the IPPC ( International Plant Protection Convention).
